  • Thomas Joseph Ward, husband of Mary Jane Ward, of Eel Ground, passed away on Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at Mount Saint Joseph Nursing Home, at the age of 81.

    Born in Miramichi, he was the son of the late Alexander and Mary Jane (Matthews) Ward. He worked as a woodsmen before his retirement and was very involved with Saint Joachim's Roman Catholic Church, he loved to fish, and was the flag carrier for the Pow Wow.

    He will be sadly missed by his wife Mary Jane (Simon) of Eel Ground; two daughters Veronica (Gary Warren) and Sheila (Ray Breau) both of Eel Ground; five sons Miller, Gary, John (Nancy), Glen, and Jonathan, all of Eel Ground; five sisters Lucy (Richard) of Eel Ground, Mary Anne (Burton) of Red Bank, Jane of Eel Ground, Barbara Isaac (Gordon) of Restigouche, and Philomena of Eel Ground; six brothers John, Joe (Cecile), Wilfred (Shirley), Raymond, Albert, and Anthony, all of Eel Ground; one stepdaughter Doreen Arseneault of Eel Ground; 10 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

    Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter Valerie, his brother Pat, and his sister Irene.

    The family will receive relatives and friends from Northumberland Funeral Home, on Saturday, April 13, 2013, from 7 to 9 pm, and on Sunday, April 14, 2013, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 15, 2013, at 4 pm, from St Joachim's Roman Catholic Church, with Father Tom Fowler officiating.

    As expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society, Parkinson Society of Canada, St Joachim's Roman Catholic Church, or to a memorial of one's choice.
