Sterling Smith Husband of the late Joan (Dunn) passed away at his residence early Saturday morning with family by his side at the age of 89.
Born in Quarryville he was the son of the late Hiram and Barbara (Jardine) Smith.
He was self employed his entire life as a land Developer in the Construction industry.
Sterling was very active and passionate about the Miramichi Shriners and was a member of Northumberland Lodge #17 F and AM.
He is survived by three daughters Cheryl (Carlo) China of Sault St. Marie ON, Holly at home, and Joy Mehta of Sudbury ON; two sons Terry (Roxanne) and Todd both of Miramichi; four sisters Gloria Johnstone of Cassiliss, June (Don) MacTavish of Miramichi, Lucy (George) Rice of Mount Hope ON.,and Faye (Edward) Gilks of South Esk; one brother Delbert (Faye) of Derby; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Besides his wife, he was predeceased by a son James; brothers Burton, Frank, Jack, Robert, and Beverly; sisters Margaret Johnston, Diann Johnson and Joan Smith; as well as a granddaughter Jeness.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral Home on Wednesday from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm.
The funeral will be held on Thursday, also at the Funeral Home, at 11am, with Father Bob Barry officiating. Burial will be in the Holy Trinity Anglican Church Cemetery, in Blackville.
Members of Northumberland Lodge # 17 F and AM are asked to assemble at the Funeral Home on Wednesday evening, at 6:30 pm, for a Masonic service.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Miramichi Shriners Facts and Figures Unit, Camp Good time, or Operation Smile would be appreciated by the family.
