Sophie LeRoy, of Newcastle, passed away peacefully in the early morning of Saturday, September 24, 2016, at the Miramichi Regional Hospital, at the age of 94. Her loving niece, Jackie English, was by her side.

She was the daughter of the late Henry and Arthemise (LeBreton) LeRoy. She worked as a salesclerk until her retirement, and was a member of the C.W.L. and Saint Mary's Roman Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Senior Citizens Club and loved the senior trips. She loved the casino and had many fantastic memories to share.
Sophie loved people and especially our little ones. She babysat Jackie and Tom when they were young and also their children. She had many jobs, as she would tell you, Stedmans, Abass Studio, Basket Centre, Sobeys, and Pierces Lunch.
Ms. LeRoy was a kind and gentle soul, who always greeted you with a smile. She loved a good hug and any opportunity to have her picture taken. She will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her surviving family and many friends.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family and is survived by her nieces Jackie (Redmond) English of Bedford, NS; and Lee Horan of New Zealand,three nephews Thomas Redmond of Elmsdale, NS,, Irving LeRoy of England, and Christopher LeRoy of England; grand nieces Karen Gibson, and Kelly Hanson; and great nephews Stephen English, Shaun English, and Darryl Redmond.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers Leo, Joseph, and Alec, and sister Louise Redmond.

The family will receive relatives and friends from Northumberland Funeral Home, on Sunday, September 25, 2016, from 2 pm to 4 pm. The funeral service will be held on Monday, September 26, 2016, at 4 pm, from Northumberland Funeral Home Chapel, with Father Tom Fowler officiating.

As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to a memorial of one's choice.
