Shane Arthur Taylor

It is with profound sadness that the family of the late Shane Arthur Taylor of Halcomb, New Brunswick announce his passing, which occurred in Fernie, British Columbia, on July 11, 2026. Shane was 51 years old.

Shane was the beloved son of Brant and Janet (Kenny) Taylor of South Esk, NB and the cherished baby brother of Shasta and Sonya.

Besides his parents, Shane is survived by sisters Shasta (Brent) Barrieau of Millerton, New Brunswick and Sonya (Derek) Bruce of Fort McMurray, Alberta; his nephews Jake Patles of Saint John, NB, Ian Bruce of Fort McMurray, AB, Scott Bruce of Edmonton, AB, and Nolan Barrieau of Cochrane, AB; his niece Brooke Barrieau of Miramichi, great niece Sophia Lanteigne and great nephew Ezra Patles both of Saint John, NB, several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Michael and Cecilia (Estey) Kenny of Miramichi, paternal grandparents, Arthur and Mable (Crowther) Taylor of Sillikers, NB. His uncles Eugene Estey, Giles Kenny and Timmy Taylor; his aunts Colleen (Kenny) Travis, Yolande (Couturier) Kenny and Joan (Taylor) Wrobel; and, his cousins Michael Kenny and Jacqueline (Estey) Hare. Shane was an Environmental Technologist and was employed by the Alberta Department of the Environment, Air Monitoring Division. His job, in part, consisted of operating a mobile lab unit, a 27 foot revamped RV nicknamed THE MAMAL, which travelled throughout Alberta to areas of air quality concern. He was one of the first deployed to the Fort McMurray Wildfire in 2016. In March, 2017, he received a commemorative medallion, an official certificate and a personal letter from then Premier Rachel Notley in recognition and appreciation for his extraordinary efforts and his outstanding service to Albertans during the fire.

Shane was an intelligent, kind, loving, compassionate and giving person. He had a heart for service to others, and at the time of his passing, he was sharing the gospel through street ministry in Alberta and British Columbia. Street ministry was his passion, and he spent much of his spare time while living in Alberta with his barbecue on the back of his truck cooking for the homeless while at the same time ministering to them. He would load his truck with hats, socks, gloves, scarves, jackets, footwear, gift certificates and other items that might be needed. Recognizing the loneliness and detachment felt by many vulnerable people, Shane would not only provide basic sustenance but would take the time to sit down in a food court or restaurant and listen to their stories, to witness and to provide a bible or tract. Most of these encounters ended with Shane taking photographs, with permission, of his new friends. Shane continued with this ministry during the time he lived in Miramichi, especially during the Christmas season.

Shane was a supporter of Miramichi Against Abortion and participated in their marches and events. He was also a member of River Church and for a few years volunteered with the children’s AWANA program. Shane loved his time serving in this way and took his role to guide and mentor very seriously.

Shane was a gifted hobby photographer. He liked to share his photos and was always willing to donate one of his beautiful landscape or animal pictures to various fundraisers to support others in need. He loved being in the woods hiking and searching for just the right landscape or wildlife photo. He also loved salmon fishing and spending time on and near the river.

Always missing home and family, in 2021 he made his way back to the Miramichi after living and working in Calgary and Edmonton for several years. He settled in Halcomb along the beautiful Little Southwest Miramichi river and it wasn’t long before his beloved dogs, Beanie and Cooper joined him, followed by his cat Francis. Shane loved his animals and was rarely seen without his dogs. Visitors to his home would often find him playing his guitar, cooking or sitting with pen, paper and an open Bible.

Shane will be wholeheartedly missed, but he will remain forever in the hearts of those who loved him. We take great encouragement and comfort in knowing that he is in the arms of Jesus and we will see him again.

As expressions of sympathy, donations in Shane’s memory may be made to the Awana program at River Church or to a memorial of one’s choice.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at the visitation on Friday, July 31, 2026 from 6 pm to 8 pm at River Church (formerly The Little Southwest Baptist Church) in Sillikers, NB. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2026 at 11 am with Pastor Leslie Somers officiating. Internment will follow in the church cemetery in Sillikers.
