  • It is with very heavy hearts that our family announce that on April 9, 2020 our loving, kind and caring father Roderick Joseph McDonald, of Nelson Miramichi, widower of Norma McDonald (2018), passed away. Dad was born on June 14,1933, the son of the late Rosalie McDonald.

In his Golden Heart he held a special place for all of us. Dad will be lovingly remembered by his children; Faye (George), Colleen (Roger), Jim (Kathy); Grandchildren Rod (Amy), Katie (Duncan) and Justin; Great grandchildren Eyer, Claire and Parker and his special furry friend Cody; Brother Terry (Janet), nieces Sarah, Elizabeth and nephew Darcy.

Besides his Mother (1949) and our Mother Norma McDonald (2018), he was preceded by his Son Terry McDonald (1983) and his Sister Karen Bromley (2002).

Beside loving his family, he loved life, playing the keyboard, piano, guitar and in the last six months he was taking music lessons to learn to play the fiddle, which he so enjoyed. He would call anyone with a birthday and play Happy Birthday on the fiddle. Dad enjoyed telling stories of days gone by, he enjoyed talking to his neighbours and they were all so kind to him.
He enjoyed his friends that came to visit and those that he spoke with on the phone. Dad made time for everyone, he had a memory like an elephant and never forgot a birthday. Always remembered a name, place ,date and time. He enjoyed going to visit his friends in the hospital or in the nursing home and most times would sit down at piano and tickle the ivories and sing a song or 2. He loved the history sessions in the month of February at the Nelson School and loved sharing old photos of days gone by.
His photos were sent Canada wide to old friends. He always extended a helping hand to anyone that needed help especially his family. He loved his Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Blue Jays and he wore their hats proudly.

Dad has left each and everyone of us with treasured and loving memories that we will cherish for a life time.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 26, 2020, at 11 am, from St Patrick's Roman Catholic Church, with Father Keoughan and Father Creamer officiating. Interment will take place in the church cemetery.

Please note; masks are mandatory and will be provided.

As expression of sympathy, donations may be made to a memorial of one's choice.
