Norma Faye (Tower) Matchett, formerly of Frances Street, Miramichi, NB passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family's love and devotion on April 17, 2026, at Bridgeview Hall in Miramichi, New Brunswick. Born on September 26, 1936, in Sackville, New Brunswick, Mom's journey was marked by dedication, warmth, and an enduring legacy that touched the hearts of many.
Norma taught commercial subjects in Port Elgin following high school before marrying and raising her family. She continued her vocation by teaching night school typing for 25 years and by coaching adults through many life skills courses in and around the Miramichi area. One of Mom's most praiseworthy endeavors was her enduring seasonal partnership with her good friend Liz Crockett in baking over 500 fruitcakes each Christmas for many years. Mom also found fellowship and purpose as a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Mom's most cherished memories were made at the family cottage in Escuminac, where she spent many summers entertaining and enjoying the company of her friends, family and beloved grandchildren.
Norma is lovingly remembered by her two daughters, Linda (John) Stevens of Miramichi, New Brunswick, and Cheryl (Jim) Clark of St. Albert, Alberta, as well as her son, Bob (Sheryl) Matchett of Moncton, New Brunswick and son-in-law Jeff Gorman of Miramichi, New Brunswick. Her legacy extends through eight grandchildren—Michael Stevens, Dr. Sheryl ( Stevens) Pleiss, David Matchett, Andrew Matchett, Jane (Gorman) McLaughlin, Katelyn (Gorman) Lefebvre, Brittany (Clark) Cann and Jack Clark. Along with her treasured grandchildren, she was very proud to be the great-grandmother of her fourteen great-grandchildren. Norma will be remembered by her sisters, Eileen Lemon and Margaret (Richard) Muise and brothers, Buddy Tower and Bill (Charlotte) Tower, as well as sisters-in-law Marilyn (Bob)) Williams, Evelyn Mann and Nancy Tower.
Norma was predeceased by her beloved husband Ronald E. Matchett, and her daughter, Beth Gorman, whose memories she held dear, as well as her brother, Robert Tower.
Honoring Mom's wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service; a graveside service will be held later in the Spring at the Miramichi Cemetery.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Miramichi Food Bank would be greatly appreciated by the family.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Losier, Dr. Kris, the wonderful staff on 2 West, Miramichi Hospital, RN's Alicia, Lisa and Tracy and her special caregivers at Bridgeview Hall, and the EMTs who compassionately and efficiently provided Mom excellent care.
Funeral arrangements are in the care of Northumberland Funeral Home, 102 Pleasant St., telephone (506) 622-7741.
