  • Mildred Jane (Murray) Savoy, of Burnt Church, passed away on Thursday, March 24, 2022, at the age of 76.

    Born in Newcastle, she was the daughter of the late Curtis and Clara (Stymiest) Murray. She was a homemaker and had previously worked as a legal secretary and as an administrative assistant with the Department of Social Services. She was a member of Zion Presbyterian Church, New Jersey, and a former member of St David's United Church, Burnt Church.

    Mildred was very involved in her church and was a past treasurer for Zion Presbyterian Church as well as St. David's United Church, an officer with The Ladies Aid, a member of the Missions Society, and a former member of the United Church Women. She also volunteered much of her time, including with the Miramichi Regional Hospital Auxiliary and their gift shop, the Thumbody Program, and the Ostomy Association. She was a long-time member of the Women’s Institute, and also a member of the Country Cousins square dancing club and a former member of the Senior's Group of Burnt Church/New Jersey.

    She will be greatly missed by her daughter Bethany Savoy and son-in-law Lee Bardwell of Calgary, AB; two grandsons Jackson and Roman; four sisters Marie MacDonald of New Jersey, Thelma Hayward of Miramichi, Elizabeth (Betty) Reade (Douglas) of Moncton, and Phyllis Davidson (George) of Burnt Church; one brother John Murray of Moncton; step sister Joyce Cassidy (Gene) of Miramichi; two sisters-in-law Audrey Mills and June Kerry both of Fredericton; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

    Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Richard Savoy; her husband’s parents Neil and Rena Savoy; her stepmother Annie Murray; her brother Kenneth Murray; and her sister Ruth Duff.

    The family will receive relatives and friends from Northumberland Funeral Home on Monday, March 28, 2022, from 2 to 5 pm. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, at 2 pm, from Northumberland Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Alexander Sutherland officiating. Interment will take place at a later date in Burnt Church Union Cemetery.
