  • Merlin Gerard Donovan, of Miramichi, passed away on Monday, April 23, 2012, at the Miramichi Regional Hospital, at the age of 77.

    Born in Newcastle, he was the son of the late William L. and Mabel (Hogan) Donovan. He worked with the Department of National Defense and was a member of the Miramichi Sportsmens Club, Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 10, and the Firefighters Association.

    Merlin is survived by his wife Florence (Connors) Donovan; four daughters Virginia (Dale MacMillan) of Miramichi, Colleen of Miramichi, Pamela (Bill Murphy) of Saint John, and Stephanie (Kevin Warren) of Miramichi; three sons Richard, Raymond (Jeannie) and Edward (Debbie) all of Miramichi; 14 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

    Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Margaret Bryenton, and three brothers Roy, Reginald, and Ivan.

    The family will receive relatives and friends from Northumberland Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 24, 2012, from 6 to 9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 25, 2012, at 10 am, from St Mary's Roman Catholic Church, with Father Fowler officiating.

    As expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the NB Lung Association, Miramichi SPCA, or to a memorial of one's choice.
