Melbourne Clark Scott

August 9, 1940 — November 22, 2025

Melbourne Clark Scott, of Miramichi, passed away peacefully at Percy's Place surrounded by his family, on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at the age of 85.

Born in Strathadam, NB, he was the son of the late Kenneth and Myrtle (Henderson) Scott. Dad left home at the age of 15 and started mining in Elliot Lake. When he returned to Miramichi, he was one of the first groups hired at Heath Steele Mines. He was the founder and first Union President of U.S.W.A Local 5319 at Heath Steel Mines in June 1962.

He decided to make a new start after getting married, and moved to Burnaby, BC, where he travelled to work in the mines at Britannia Beach and Squamish, British Columbia. He later went on to Discovery Mines, NWT. When that mine closed, he moved our family to Avoca Mines, in Ireland, where Sonia was born. In 1972, he returned home and worked at Heath Steel Mines as a Supervisor both underground and on the surface until his retirement. He was also a licensed pipefitter and received his blasting certificate.

During his retirement, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and refinishing furniture. Dad's main focus was always his family! He loved Mom more than anything else in life. Next to her, he doted on his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, always putting himself last.

He was a hockey fanatic, always cheering for the Toronto Maple Leafs and never getting to see them win the Stanley Cup since 1967. He was his great-grandchildren's biggest fan and supported them by never missing a live stream of their hockey games, even through his journey with cancer.

He will be greatly missed by his wife of 63 years, Eileen (Hogan) Scott of Miramichi; two daughters Melissa Scott of Miramichi and Sonia Hofer (Phil) of Florida; three brothers Blair Scott (Late Freida) of Loggieville, Kenneth Scott (Judy) of Alberta, and Glen Scott of Strathadam; two grandchildren, Cristel Hamilton (Ryan) and Kael McKibbon (Kayleigh Miller); three great grandchildren Ryker Hamilton, Rayna Hamilton, and Ronyn McKibbon; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his infant brother Merle; infant sister Doreen Scott; and sister Betty Ann Scott (Tony LeBlanc).

Our family would like to thank the staff on 3 East at Region 7 Hospital for their special care, as well as Dr. Ahmed for his compassion. A special thank you to the staff at Percy's Place for the kindness and dignity he was shown in his last moments, as well as the care given to his family. We are so grateful.

My father will be greatly missed, but never forgotten by those who knew and loved him.

All are welcome to attend a Celebration of Life Service on Sunday, November 30th, 2025, at 3 pm, at Northumberland Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Vaden Sutherland officiating.
