Mary Carmel English

Mary Carmel (Gill) English passed away peacefully at the Miramichi Regional Hospital, surrounded by her family, on Monday, July 14, 2025, at the age of 97.

Born in Barnaby River, Carmel was the daughter of the late Patrick and Clara (Murphy) Gill. She was a lifetime member of the C.W.L. and a member of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church, where she volunteered much of her time. She also volunteered with Meals on Wheels and the Miramichi Food Bank.

She will be greatly missed by her children Mary of Montreal, Margot (Bradley Mullin) of Sussex, Carolyn (Gary Gibbs) of Riverview, Raymond (Alyson) of Miramichi and George of Moncton; her sister Joan Silliker of Nelson; seven grandchildren Alex and Madison Mullin, Gregory, Emily, and Laura Gibbs, Nan’s boy Evan and Maria English; her great granddaughter Lydia; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Raymond English; her sisters Mary Mahoney, Ursula Regan, Patricia Hackett, and Theresa Regan; her brothers Gerald, Clement, Donald, Joseph, and Patrick; and her granddaughter Danielle.

The family will receive relatives and friends from Northumberland Funeral Home, on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, from 6 pm to 9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at 11 am, from St Patrick's Roman Catholic Church, in Nelson. Interment will take place in the church cemetery.

As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the I.W.K., St Patrick's Cemetery Fund, or to a memorial of one's choice.
