Marvel Maureen (Smallwood) Kernighan, of Maple Glen, passed away on Friday, January 27, 2017, at her residence, at the age of 73.

Born in Newcastle, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Dorothy Smallwood. She worked as a Cafeteria Manager with School District No. 8, and also as a caregiver with K.R.T. & Associates.
Marvel loved her bowling league and was an avid bingo and card player. She enjoyed knitting and gardening; and especially loved her flowers and all of her animals.

She will be greatly missed by her daughter Maureen (Allen Carruthers) of Miramichi; her son Guy Jardine (Margaret) of Williamstown; two stepsons Brian Kernighan of Vancouver, BC, and Mark Kernighan (Trudy) of Saint John; stepdaughter Darlene (Duane Goodfellow) of Arizona, USA; sister Karen Manderson (Robert Trotter) of Miramichi; brother Jackie Johnston of Miramichi; son-in-law Roger Beaulieu of Miramichi; five sisters-in-law Theresa Hillock (Boyd) of Miramichi, Vera Richard of C.I. Road, Mary Emma (Herbie) Tarr of Miramichi, Simone Jardine of Williamstown, and Irene Jardine of Maple Glen; five brothers-in-law Hubert Sherrard of Whitneyville, Winson (Gladys) Jardine of Maple Glen, Wilfred Jardine of C.I. Road, Clifford (Myrtle) Jardine of Ontario, and Colin Jardine of U.S.A.; 10 grandchildren Tanya, Arlen, Darcy, Adam, Amanda, Jeramie, Crystal, Monique, Stephen, and Afton; many great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband Rufus Jardine and second husband Frederick Kernighan. She was also predeceased by her daughter Audrey Dorthia; stepdaughter April Beaulieu; brothers Mervin Smallwood and Arlen Smallwood; and her great grandchild.

The family will receive relatives and friends from Northumberland Funeral Home on Monday, January 30, 2017, from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm, and Tuesday, January 31, 2017, from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will take place on Wednesday, February 1, 2017, at 2 pm, from Northumberland Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Alice Szemok officiating.
