It is with heavy hearts that our family announces the passing of Marilyn Anne Matchett, age 62, of Miramichi, New Brunswick, who passed away on July 27th, 2025, surrounded by family at the Miramichi Regional Hospital.
Born and raised in Miramichi, on December 18th, 1962, to Bill and Edie MacDonald. Marilyn dedicated over 30 years of her life to the Miramichi Senior Citizens Home and then home care, where she cared for residents with a steady hand, a warm heart, and her signature blend of sarcasm and humor. Her compassion and wit made her not only a trusted caregiver but also a beloved friend to many.
Marilyn is survived by her loving husband John Matchett of 37 years and beloved son Michael Matchett. She will be deeply missed by her parents, along with her brothers: Michael (Cathy) MacDonald, Mark (Kim) MacDonald, all of Miramichi, and George (Johanna) MacDonald of Vernon, BC.
She is also survived by and will be deeply missed by her father-in-law Bob Matchett. Her sisters-in-law, Cathy (Rob) Ward, Nancy (John) Mullin-Ward, and her brother-in-law, Paul (Una) Matchett.
She is predeceased by her mother-in-law, Catherine Matchett.
She also leaves behind a close-knit group of nieces and nephews who brought her great pride and joy from the day they were born. As well as many other friends and relatives.
A woman of routine and loyalty, Marilyn rarely missed a Bingo night, faithfully attending alongside her dear friends Shirley & John until Shirley's own passing. Whether cracking a joke or offering a steady presence, Marilyn had a way of making those around her feel cared for and seen. Always buying little gifts or someone’s favourite snack and happily delivering it to them. She was a great cook — her cabbage rolls will be missed.
Marilyn’s legacy of kindness, strength, and laughter lives on in all who knew and loved her. The family would like to thank the ICU team at the Miramichi Regional Hospital, Dr. Rigley, Dr. Black, and the 2 West Nursing team.
