Mable Ann Ward

It is with great sadness that the family of Mable Ann Ward, of Natoaganeg (Eel Ground), announces her passing on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at the Miramichi Regional Hospital at the age of 60.

Born in Miramichi, she was the daughter of Philomena Ward. She worked as an adult care worker, and enjoyed spending her time playing bingo with family and friends, making her famous luskinikn, and making everyone around her feel welcome with her warm smile and infectious laugh. She could often be found at community events or cruising around the rez, or in town.

She will be greatly missed by her mother Philomena Ward of Eel Ground; daughters, Katie of Burnt Church, Shalyn of Eel Ground, and Shauntay (Josh) of Maple Glen; her chosen daughters, Sophia, Taylor, and Savannah; her sisters, Mary Simonson of Eel Ground, Betty Pfaefflin (Ron) of Connecticut, USA, and Helen Wakelin (Craig) of Eel Ground; her brothers, Vincent Ward, and Benny Ward (Margaret) both of Eel Ground; her grandchildren, Nikita, Skylar, and Nathan; as well as several nieces and nephews. and special friend Daniel Malley

She is predeceased by her brothers, Burton, Kenneth, and Stephen.

In keeping with her wishes, there will be no visitation. The Sacred Fire will be lit at the Natoaganeg Health Centre, April 29th @ 11:00 am – May 2nd @ 11:00 am. A celebration of her life will be held on May 10th, 2026 @ 12:00 pm, at the Natoaganeg Band Hall followed by merchandise bingo.

As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made in person at Mother Mable’s celebration of life on May 10th.
