It is with great sadness that the family of Aurore (Laura) (nee Leblanc) Arsenault, announce her peaceful passing on December 15, 2022 at Losier Hall in Miramichi NB, after a lengthy fight with dementia. She was 99.

Laura was born on March 3, 1923 in St. Wilfred, NB to Roger and Bibienne (Boisvert). Laura was preceded in death by her husband of 76 years, Steven Arsenault, and 2 sons Roger and Joseph.

Laura is survived by 2 loving sons, Bruce (Diana) of Fredericton NB and Rick (Chris) of Miramichi NB, as well as 4 loving daughters, Muriel (Bernie) of Calgary AB, Judy of Moncton NB, Rhonda (Brent) of Barrie ON and Tammy (Colin) of Moncton NB. Laura, affectionally known as Memere, will be greatly missed by her 14 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.
She is survived by one sister, Leola (the late Curtis) Welch, and 3 sister-in-laws Matilda (the late Camille), Rose-Lee (the late Lucien), Rose (the late Francois) and many nieces and nephews, who loved her dearly.
She was predeceased by her brothers Michel(Eliza), Octave(Louza), Willie(Lillianne), Georges(Heloise), Theophile, Urbain, David, Joseph and Theophile.

With a twinkle in her eye, Laura brought love and laughter wherever she went. She was always helping those in need with her generous heart, never expecting anything in return.
Growing up through the Great Depression, Laura learned how to be savvy and recycle out of necessity. At the young age 9 years old she had mastered how to make bread, and left home at the age of 13 to be a nanny for a family in a neighbouring village. In 1962, Steve, Laura and the children relocated to Wabush Labrador, where she worked for many years for the Bell Telephone Company as a cook and housekeeper. During that time, she obtained a nursing diploma and volunteered at a local hospital.
In 1972, Laura and the children returned to New Brunswick where she enrolled at the Bathurst Community College and obtained a Diploma for Cooking. This lead to her securing a job at the Bishop’s Residence in Bathurst NB, where she worked for 13 years, until she retired, relocating to Allardville NB.
Besides being a great cook, she loved to knit, crochet, sew and make crafts, creating dolls, toys, blankets and clothing for her grandchildren, oftentimes creating beautiful designs without even a pattern. She loved to read and watch tv while knitting and crocheting.

The family would like to thank her attending physician, Dr. Losier and Dr. McKnight as well as the many nurses and staff at Losier Hall, and those from Mount St. Joseph Nursing Home. She was well taken care of and that brought great peace of mind to the family.

In keeping with Laura’s wishes, a private cremation has taken place at Northumberland Crematorium. There will be no visitation at this time, but the family plans to have a celebration of Laura’s life next summer.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzeimers Association or to a charity of your choice.
