Joyce Eves Smallwood

Joyce Eves Smallwood of Maple Glen NB passed away peacefully at the Miramichi Regional Hospital, on Monday, July 28th, 2025 - just 3 days shy of her 93rd birthday. Joyce was born in Trout Brook NB, to the late Ernest Walsh and Margaret (Maggie) Waye.

Joyce was full of love and energy with a sense of humor and a spark that made her unforgettable. More than memories, she leaves behind a strength and hard-won wisdom that she has passed down through generations.

Her strong-will and independence were fierce, but in her later years when her steps slowed just a bit - her family stepped in - just as she has always done for them. Her children surrounded her with care, time and love. A special thank-you goes to her son Blake, who’s daily companionship and caregiving allowed Joyce to remain in her home until her last days.

Joyce will be missed by her children Hazen Smallwood (Donna), Sandra Jardine (the late Merlin Jardine), and Blake Smallwood of Maple Glen, Lindsay Smallwood (Shannon) of Yellowknife, Dana Allison (Stephen) of Trout Brook, as well as Carmeline McMahon of Miramichi (the spouse of her late son Rance Smallwood). Joyce is also survived by 12 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her son Rance, she was predeceased by her 7 siblings and her grandson Doug Smallwood.

The family would like to thank Dr. Slaney and staff of the Miramichi Hospital for their care, support and compassion during her short illness. As per Joyce’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral. An interment service for family will follow at the Maple Glen Cemetery at a later date.
