  • Joseph Ward of Eel Ground passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 5, 2021, at the Dr. Georges-L. Dumont Hospital, in Moncton, at the age of 75.

    Born in Newcastle, he was the son of the late Alexander and Mary (Matthew) Ward. He worked for Public Works in Eel Ground, and was a Councilor for over 30 years. He was on the committee for the Eel Ground Pow Wow and Eel Ground Bingo and was always heavily involved in the community.

    He will be greatly missed by his two daughters Shelley Ward and Tanya Ward (Sandy Allison) both of Eel Ground; his son Stewart Ward (Amanda) of Eel Ground; five sisters Philomena Ward of Eel Ground, Mary Jane Simonson of Eel Ground, Barbara Isaac (Gordon) of Listuguj, Mary Ann Ward (Burton) of Red Bank, and Lucy Martin (Richard) of Eel Ground; three brothers Wilfred Ward (Shirley), Anthony Ward, and Raymond Ward all of Eel Ground; seven grandchildren Krista, Charolette, Dillin, Liana, Dakota, Mathyis, and Allison; and one great granddaughter Mlayah; as well as several nieces and nephews.

    Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Cecilia Ward; his brothers Thomas Ward, Patrick Ward, Freeman Ward, Albert Ward, and John Ward; and one sister Irene Paul.

    The family will receive relatives and friends from Northumberland Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 8, 2021, from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, December 9, 2021, at 10:30 am, from St Joachim's Roman Catholic Church, in Eel Ground, with Father Godwin Kalu officiating.

    Please note: proof of double vaccination and masks are mandatory at both the visitation and the church.

    As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to a memorial of one's choice.
