  • Joseph McGrath, of Miramichi, passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2018, at the Miramichi Regional Hospital, at the age of 79.

    Born in Barnaby River, he was the son of the late John and Frances (Hackett) McGrath.

    He was a carpenter by trade and retired from School District 16. He was a Fourth Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus Father Dixon Council 4886, a member of St Samuel's Men's Group, as well as Senior's Bowling.

    He will be greatly missed by his wife Helen (Taylor) of Miramichi; daughter Natalie McGrath (Grant Payne) of Whites Cove; two sons Daryl (France Dumais) of Montreal, QC and Kirk (Deanna Mercer) of Alix, AB; four sisters Sheila Bohan of Miramichi, Greta Bohan (Harold) of Maple Ridge, BC, Anna Peplinski (Dominic) of Miramichi, and Elaine Howard (Jim) of Vancouver, BC; one brother Robert McGrath (Elizabeth) of Miramichi; nine grandchildren Vanessa, Samantha, Brittany, Alyssa, Bailey, Brooklyn, Liam, Charles, and Niall; four step grandchildren Brad, Abbigale, Cynthia, and McKenna; three great grandchildren Logan, Sophie, and Jaxon; and several nieces and nephews.

    Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Jackie (Peggy) and brother-in-law Earl Bohan.

    The family will receive relatives and friends from Northumberland Funeral Home, on Thursday, January 11, 2018, from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 9 pm.

    Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 12, 2018, at 11 am, from St Samuel's Roman Catholic Church, with Father Maurice Swift officiating.

    As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
