Joseph "Joey" Ambrose Woods, of Whitney, passed away peacefully at Percy's Place on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at the age of 61.
Born in Chatham, NB, he was the son of Adrian and Elizabeth (Young) Woods.
Joey was a skilled instrumentation technician and electrician. He worked for Heath Steele Mines, Brunswick Mine, and Arbec over the course of his career. He was proud of his trade and valued the friendships he gained.
He enjoyed spending his free time boating, camping, and snowmobiling. These hobbies brought him great happiness and provided countless cherished memories with family and friends. His greatest pride and most cherished accomplishments were his wife of 27 years and his daughter. His wife was his partner in every sense, and he cherished the life they built together. His daughter was the center of his world, and he took great pride in teaching her many of life's skills, sharing his knowledge with her and helping her grow into the strong, independent woman she became.
He shared a special bond with his beloved dog, Lily. After work, she looked forward to playing frisbee with him, and no meal was complete without saving her a piece of chicken.
He will be greatly missed by his wife, Allison (Richard) Woods of Whitney; his daughter, Emily Woods (Colby Regan) of Strathadam; his parents, Adrian and Elizabeth Woods of Craigville; his three sisters, Deborah Woods (Brian Daley) of Douglasfield, Maureen Woods of Taiwan, and Kim Humphrey (Jason) of Fredericton; father-in-law, Ernie Richard (Tina) of Baie-Sainte-Anne; brother-in-law, Darren Richard (Lorie) of Chaplin Island Road; and three nieces, Jayme (Cole), Renee, and Olivia (Aaron)
He was predeceased by his mother-in-law, Margaret "Peggy" Richard.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Joey's friends, who offered support, visits, acts of kindness and brought many milkshakes throughout his illness. Your compassion and generosity will never be forgotten.
We would also like to express our sincere appreciation to Dr. Losier, the staff and volunteers at Percy's Place, the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Miramichi Regional Hospital and the Moncton Hospital, and the Extra-Mural Program for the compassionate care, kindness, and support they provided.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Northumberland Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at 11 am, at St Thomas the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in Red Bank, with Father Allison Mahoney and Father Dan Bastarache officiating. Interment will take place in the church cemetery.
As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to Percy's Place or to a memorial of one's choice.
