John (Johnny) Francis, of Eel Ground, passed away on Tuesday, September 27, 2011, at the Miramichi Regional Hospital, at the age of 83.

Born in Eel Ground, he was the son of the late Moses and Rosalie Francis. He worked as a carpenter and was a member of St Joachim's Roman Catholic Church and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 10.

He will be sadly missed by his wife Dorothy Francis; four daughters Hazel Francis (Gary Wood) of Miramichi, Carmel (Billy Narvey), Florence (Stevie Paul), and Darlene (Ricky Augustine) all of Eel Ground; two sons Romeo (Colleen Estey), and Anthony (Valerie Mullin) both of Eel Ground; two sisters Shirley (Wilfred Ward) of Red Bank, and Georgina (Garfield Barlow) of Indian Island; 19 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by six brothers Frank, Allan, Henry, Wilfred, Arthur, and Linsey; and four sisters Mabel, Ann, Stella, and Rosie.

The family will receive relatives and friends from Northumberland Funeral Home on Thursday, September 29, 2011, from 7 to 9 pm and on Friday, September 30, 2011, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 1, 2011, at 11 am, from St Joachim's Roman Catholic Church, with Father Tom Fowler officiating.

Please note, Royal Canadan Legion Branch No. 10 members are to meet at the funeral home on Friday at 6:30 pm for a Legion Service at 6:45 pm.

In lieu of flowers, and due to severe allergies, the family would appreciate donations to the Pew Restoration Fund for St Joachim's Roman Catholic Church.
