Jean Elizabeth Allain

October 27, 1934 — November 7, 2023

The peaceful passing of Jean Elizabeth Allain, widow of Euclide Allain, occurred at Percy’s Place on November 7, 2023, after a period of failing health. Her last weeks were spent surrounded by the love of her family and the loving care of the staff at Percy’s Place.

Jean was born in Sunny Corner on October 27, 1934, the middle child of the late Henry and Nellie {Street) Rolfe.

The majority of her adult life was spent in the village of Douglastown where she raised her family and worked. She retired after working as a Custodian at Gretna Green Elementary. Her last three years were spent living with her daughter in the former Newcastle. She enjoyed reading, game shows, cards, jigsaw puzzles and Bingo. She really liked a boisterous game of Kismet with her sister, Shirley.

Missing her are her daughters: Diane Donovan (late Paul), Karen Allain (Willie Walsh), Kathryn Allain, all of Miramichi; her son Tony Allain (Dawn Whyte) of Whitney. She will be missed by her sisters Dorothy (late Michael), Shirley (late Frank) and her sister-in-law, Roma Rolfe of Southampton, Ontario. She also leaves two grandchildren Tanya Gallant and Lynn Daigle and a great grandchild Addalyn Gallant, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her husband, Euclide; her parents, Henry and Nellie; her sister, Violet Rolfe; her brothers, James, Vincent and Cecil; and her son-in-law, Paul Donovan.

At Jean’s request there will be no visitation or formal funeral service. There will be a public graveside service at Saint Samuel’s Cemetery in Douglastown on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at 11 AM. Immediately following the service, there will be a gathering of family and friends to celebrate Jean at Saint Samuel’s Parish Center.

If you wish, the family requests donations be made to Percy’s Place Inc. at www.losierfoundation.com.
