Herman Cortes

Herman Cortes, of Miramichi, passed away peacefully at Bridgeview Hall on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at the age of 77.

Born in Doaktown, NB, he was the son of the late Stafford and Janie (MacDonald) Cortes. Herman worked as a taxi driver for Leo's Taxi and WRC Taxi. He enjoyed meeting and chatting with people and making connections through his work. In his early years, he loved the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting.

He will be greatly missed by his daughters, Barbara Compeau (Dave) of Moncton, Shelley Geikie (Robert) of Miramichi, Lori Russell (Danny) of Miramichi, and Betty Cortes (Tony Russell) of Miramichi; his sons, Paul Cortes (Kelly) and Nathan Cortes (Deena) both of Miramichi; son-in-law Wayne Connors of Miramichi; his significant other Rose Fairley and her children, Billy Fairley (Amanda), Lorri Fairley (Kent O'Donnell), Tony Fairley (Marilynn Boudreau), and Lynda Fairley (Sebastien Benoit); his many siblings; 14 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Elgina Rita (Duffy) Cortes; his son Brian Cortes; and his siblings.

Visitation will take place at Northumberland Funeral Home on Friday, November 28, 2025, from 12 pm to 2 pm. The funeral service will follow at 2 pm, from Northumberland Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Theo Craig officiating.

As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to a memorial of one's choice.
