Helen Elizabeth (McLaughlin) Stewart

Helen was full of joy and love to the end. She had a laugh and a joke for every occasion."You might as well laugh as cry," she would say.

Helen Elizabeth Stewart, of South Nelson, passed away peacefully at Miramichi Regional Hospital, on Sunday, September 6, 2026, at the age of 83.

Born in Miramichi, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Kathleen (Saunders) McLaughlin. Helen was a homemaker, pet mom, manager and chief bottle washer at the Town Hill Coffee Shop in the early 80’s. She was active in the Anglican Church, playing the organ and singing her favourite hymns every Sunday, and she taught Sunday school to all of the neighbourhood kids. She was an avid snowmobiler in the winter months and a camping fanatic in the summer months.

Daughter, Sister, Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother in every sense of the word. She was a friend, a caregiver, loyal, loving, honest, witty, kind, generous and admirable. Her unconditional love for her family helped shape them into remarkable individuals who she loved and admired dearly. 

The family would like to thank her caregiver, Mary Sullivan, and Rev. Perry Cooper, for their compassionate care and sincere kindness.

She will be greatly missed by her husband, Lloyd Stewart; son, Alan Stewart (Karen); brother, Frankie McLaughlin; grandchildren, Tanner Stewart, Nathan Stewart, and Calleigh Stewart; and great grandchildren, Clark and Quinn Stewart.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her daughter, Kathy Stewart.

Visitation will take place on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at Northumberland Funeral Home, from 5 pm to 8 pm. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at 11 am, from Northumberland Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Perry Cooper officiating.
