  • Hazel Josephine Underhill of Gray Rapids, wife of the late Roland Underhill, passed away at the Miramichi Regional Hospital, on Sunday, August 1, 2021, at the age of 101.

    Born in Gray Rapids, Hazel was the daughter of the late Hiram and Effie (Harris) Coughlan.

    Hazel will be greatly missed by two daughters Wanetta (late Malcolm) Walls and Shirley (Thomas) McCabe of Renous; six grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, two great great grandchildren; two sisters Enid (late Wendell) Parks of Gray Rapids and Winnifred (late Steve) Hallomay of Kamloops; sister-in-law Joan (late Floyd) Coughlan of Blackville; and several nieces and nephews.

    Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by siblings Peter, Ethel, Blanche, George, Floyd, Clarence, Burpee; her son Ellery George; daughter-in-law Peggy (Walls); and grandson Ellery Franklin Underhill.

    Hazel was a life-long member of Saint Agnes Anglican Church, a member of the ACW, and a Sunday School teacher.

    As per Hazel's wishes, there will be a visitation at St Agnes Anglican Church, on Friday, August 6, 2021, from 1 pm to 1:45 pm. A private funeral service will take place following the visitation at 2 pm, with Father Gerry Laskey officiating.

    As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to St Agnes Anglican Church, or to a memorial of one's choice.
