Hayward Clayton Stewart

July 29, 1948 — January 1, 2026

It is with the deepest sorrow, and faith in the highest hope, that we announce the passing of Hayward Clayton Stewart, of Doaktown, whom God welcomed Home on Thursday, January 1, 2026, at Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton, at the age of 77.

Born in Blissfield NB , he was the son of the late Clayton and Hilda (Connors) Stewart. Hayward will be greatly missed by all who knew him .

Growing up in Doaktown he was a quiet, determined, hard working, honest and kind man who never missed an opportunity to help anyone in need. From a very young age, his faith in God as his saviour and best friend was the very forefront of his life .

He worked locally as a grocery manager, then as full time School Bus Driver (47 years), Health Clinic Custodian (30 years) while at the same time performing his life’s calling of being completely devoted to loving, listening, helping, guiding, teaching, and mentoring anyone within his reach in the capacity as Servant of The Most High God and Pastor of First Pentecostal Church of Doaktown (45 years).

After attending Bible School in Fredericton as a young man, he spent the rest of his life telling anyone under the sound of his voice just how much he loved Jesus, and how he was going to make it to heaven no matter what and wanted everyone he could find to go there too .

He loved to sing and was known throughout the country as the “best camp meeting song leader “. Everywhere he went, they would ask him to lead the worship in song!

Dad married the love of his life and his best friend, Winnie, on August 11, 1973 and she was the apple of his eye, his closest friend, and his baby until he took his last breath.

Having two sons, Brent and Scott, he did everything he could to help them and mentor them and their families in every aspect of life. It didn’t matter what time of day or night, his heart full of love and his calm quiet determination was always a source of reassurance that everything would be ok. He loved everyone, and especially all the kids that called him Papa (related or not, he loved them all).

He will always be fondly remembered, and overwhelmingly missed by his best friend and wife Winnie Stewart of Doaktown; sons, Brent (Angel) and Scott (Naomi) both of Doaktown; five grandchildren, Jordan (Lacey), Nadine (Gabe), Laurisa (Elliot), Brittany, and Macie; great grandchildren Owen, Hudson, Clayton, Louisa, John Mark, Roman, and Mabel ; sisters, Thelma (Charles Carter) of Kouchibouguac, Karen (Dwight Dunnett) of Doaktown, and Kim Stewart of Hoyt; brothers, Paul (Audrey) of Doaktown, Billy (Barb) of Doaktown, and Donald (Susan) of Oregon; as well as several nieces and nephews, along with the dozens of children who grew up calling him Papa .

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his infant sister Margaret, sisters Bernice Arbeau and Janet Stewart, and his brother Ricky Stewart.
