Harry Joseph Maher

January 8, 1961 — January 6, 2024

Harry Joseph Maher of Miramichi passed away peacefully at his home on January 6, 2024.

Born in Chatham he was the son of the late Edward (Neddie) and Pearl Maher.

After his father’s death in 2004, Harry took over as Owner/Funeral Director of Maher’s Funeral Home in Miramichi East. He served his clients with compassion and respect and was always thankful for the trust and loyalty of the families he served. They were all very important to him.

Most of his interests consisted of cars, and races at the drag strip in Miramichi. He loved going to car shows and a 1967 Camaro even followed him home one year. With a lot of help from his friend Jason Richardson his red car was his favourite.

Harry is survived by his wife of 28 years Jennifer (Glendenning) Maher, three sons: Aaron Edward, Ethan James, and Andrew Lochlan; his brother Jim (Mary) Maher of Halifax, sisters Mary Maher of Miramichi, and Carole Maher of Toronto; nieces, Brianna and Hayley Maher of Halifax, and Jordan Delong of Miramichi; nephews, Derek and Caleb Bechervaise of Moncton. Harry is also survived by his parents in law, Keith and Ruth Glendenning of Napan N.B, sister in law Lesley Glendenning, and brother in law Alan Bechervaise.

Besides his parents, Harry was predeceased by his sister Joanie.

The family would like to express their thanks and gratitude to the 3rd floor staff at the oncology clinic for their wonderful care of Harry at the Miramichi Regional Hospital, the Extra Mural staff whom made him comfortable in his final days, and heartfelt thanks to Dr Gerard Losier for his care and compassion. We would also like to thank Calvin Presbyterian church for their offer of support, and Victor Somers from the Eastside church for his support. Also thanks go to Lorne Jay, and his daughter Amy for their kindness and professionalism at this time.

As per Harry’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral. There will be a graveside memorial in the spring.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Miramichi SPCA would be appreciated.

Arrangements are under the care of Northumberland Funeral Home & Crematorium, 102 Pleasant St, Miramichi, telephone (506) 622-7741. Where your loved one never leaves our care.
