Gerry moved to Miramichi at the age of ten with her parents Emile and Helene (Nellie) Richard.
She attended St. Mary’s Academy and graduated from St. Michael’s High in Chatham in 1956. Gerry and her family returned to New Brunswick in 1969 settling in Moncton where she resided until 1985, when she moved first to London, Ontario then to the Vancouver, BC area in 1986. The Boys and Girls Club of Greater Vancouver was her first employer on the West Coast, followed by the Semiahmoo House Society until her retirement in 1998.
Since retiring, Gerry had an active and fun time travelling and volunteering in White Rock. She made many trips home to the Miramichi over the years...the last few to help care for her father Emile, who passed away in October 2006 and support her mother, now residing in Fredericton, NB
