Germaine Stewart

Jun 21, 1936 — Jun 28, 2026

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Germaine (Gerry) Stewart, who passed away peacefully at Percy’s Place in Chatham, NB, on June 28th at the age of 90. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend whose life was defined by her unwavering love and care for others.

Born on June 21, 1936, in Rogersville, New Brunswick, she later made her home in Chatham. She was the daughter of the late Placide and Eloise (Gallant) Aucoin. She is reunited in eternal rest with her husband Floyd. She is survived by her sister, Nora Given of Portland, Maine, and her children: Dirk, Aubrey (Helen), Eloise, Brenda, and Connie, all of Miramichi, and Tracy (Ivan) McLaughlin of Woodstock, and her sisters-in-law Lorraine Aucoin & Yolande Wedge.

Germaine was predeceased by her son, Brent, her sisters, Lumina (Guy) Bourgoin, Louise (Graydon) Porter, Alexina Hibbert, Loriana Arkin; and four brothers, Elie (Rina), Pete (Shirley), Romeo, Roger and Butch.

She leaves behind a legacy through her seven grandchildren: Stephanie King, Ashley Matchett, Kelsey Moorehouse, Kayleigh Leblanc, Jesse Stewart, and Isaac & Lilly McLaughlin, as well as her seven cherished great-grandchildren.

Her greatest joy was her family, and she treasured every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her home was always a place of comfort, warmth, and welcome, with a pot of tea on the stove and homemade bread and cookies for all to enjoy. Germaine's kitchen was a welcoming, warm space where she created meals and baked goods from her heart. Her passion for cooking was evident in every dish she prepared. She found great joy in sharing her creations with others. It was truly a special place filled with delicious food and a generous spirit.

Throughout her working years, she dedicated herself to helping others, first as a switchboard operator at Hotel Dieu Hospital and later at the Miramichi Regional Hospital. Her kind voice, friendly manner, and willingness to assist made a lasting impression on many people over the years.

She and Floyd created countless cherished memories during weekends and vacations spent at their beloved camp in Two Brooks.

For the past six years, she resided at Losier Hall, where she formed many meaningful friendships. True to her caring nature, she continued to help others whenever she could, finding purpose and joy in supporting those around her. She will be remembered for her kindness, selflessness, strength, and dedication to her family. Her memory lives on through the many lives she touched and the love she shared so freely.

In keeping with her wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A private celebration of life with family will be held at a later date. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the staff and volunteers of Percy’s Place, the Emergency Department team at Miramichi Regional Hospital, Ambulance New Brunswick team, and Losier Hall for their friendship, care, and compassion. To celebrate her memory, the family invites you to make a contribution to Percy's Place.

She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
