It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Gary Dwight Gillespie on November 4, 2024, at the Miramichi Regional Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Blissfield, on March 12, 1947, he was the son of the late Maxwell and Guila (Johnson) Gillespie. He began his career as a pipefitter and was a Supervisor at Northwood, and went on to work for the Department of Fisheries and Oceans until his retirement.
A true outdoorsman, Gary had an appreciation for nature. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, and trapping. He was proud of his skills as an angler, famously beating Ted Williams, although he never bragged about it. He was a great storyteller, with an exceptional sense of humor. He always followed through on any project, even teaching himself how to play the guitar, and loved to keep busy tinkering in the yard or around the house. He possessed a strength that resonated not only in his physical capabilities but also in the deep compassion he showed towards others. Always ready to lend a helping hand, Gary's generosity left a lasting impression on those who knew him.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of 56 years Marlene (Asoyuf) Gillespie of South Esk; daughters Cheryl Gillespie (Kevin Storey) of Howard Rd., and Cynthia Doak (David) of Miramichi; three sisters Sharon Jagoe (Edward) of Fredericton, Shelley Sullivan (Herbert) of Lincoln, and Wendy Betts (Jeff) of Woodstock; brother Dewey Gillespie (Lois) of Miramichi; special chosen brother Patrick Gillespie (Paulette); grandchildren Cassandra Brophy, Devan Brophy (Madalyn), Matthew Doak, and Jessica Doak; great grandchildren Chloe, Carmindy, Cassius, Cainan, Kaysen, and Kailen; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his grandson Darren Brophy; brothers Darrel and Paul, and sisters Lois, June, Donna, and Kimberley.
The family will receive relatives and friends from Northumberland Funeral Home, on Thursday, November 7, 2024, from 4 to 7 pm. The funeral service will be held on Friday, November 8, 2024, at 10:30 am, from Northumberland Funeral Home Chapel, with Father Cornelius Ngurukwem officiating. Interment will take place in St Mary's R.C. Cemetery.
