Francis Malley

Joseph Francis Malley, of Miramichi, passed away peacefully at the Miramichi Regional Hospital, surrounded by his family, on Sunday, July 27, 2025, at the age of 64.Born in Miramichi, he was the son of Alvida and Emelda (Godin) Malley. Francis was an architect and owned his own architectural firm, Des-Tek Inc. He was also a distiller and owner of Three Dog Distilling Company.

He will be greatly missed by his wife Cheryl Brown of Miramichi; son Jeffrey of Dublin, Ireland; parents Alvida and Emelda Malley of Miramichi; sisters Nicole Britt (Robin) of Dieppe, Denise Malley-Cowan (Scott) of Miramichi, and Giselle Kingston (David) of Miramichi; brother-in law Jamey Brown and sister-in-law Alyson Brown (Terry) of Miramichi, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Francis attended Mount Allison University, Ryerson Polytechnical Institute and the Technical University of Nova Scotia, obtaining his Master of Architecture, First Professional and Bachelor of Environmental Design Studies. He has been practicing architecture since 1984, starting as a Graduate Student working for the Government of Northwest Territories in Fort Smith and various firms in Ottawa. He was a Graduate Architect with John Preston & Associates Ltd./CBCL Limited, Halifax as well as Murray & Murray, Moshe Safdie Architects, Ottawa. He opened his own practice in 1988 and was a member of the Architects' Association of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia Association of Architects, Architects’ Association of Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Architects and a member of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada.

 Francis has spent countless hours volunteering in the community. He was a long time member and past president of the Miramichi Rotary Club since 1992 and a Paul Harris Fellow, a past member and chair of the Board of Directors of St. John Ambulance NB, a past vice-chairman, Board of Directors of the Miramichi Regional Hospital Foundation, a past member of the Board of Directors, Early Intervention Program of Chatham Daycare Inc. and an instructor with the Junior Achievers Program.

In keeping with his wishes, there will be no visitation. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Miramichi SPCA or a charity of one’s choice.
