  • In her 100th year on this earth, the family of Florrie Beatrice (nee Bell) Brehaut are announcing her passing on September 10, 2016. She is now residing with her precious Lord & Saviour. After 54 years, what a wonderful reunion she will have when she is reunited with her beloved husband, Lawrence (Bus) Brehaut. As her granddaughter, Melissa, once remarked “Bus’s first words to her would probably be, What took you so long?”
Florrie (Mom) was born in (Craigville) Miramichi, on January 29, 1917, to the late David & Mary (Dickson) Bell. She was the youngest of six children and was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Besides her parents and husband, Mom was predeceased by her siblings, Robina, Agnes, Mary, Lily & Howard and their spouses. She was also predeceased by her (Brehaut) siblings in-law, Dorothy Falconer, Ruth Bell & Norma Connell and their spouses.
Mom’s schooling started in a one-room schoolhouse and ended at the Provincial Normal School, Fredericton, NB, when she received her Teacher’s Diploma in 1935. This was no small feat as it was during the Depression and money was scarce. Through extremely hard work, dedication, sacrifice and devotion to their family Dave and Mary Bell made sure all their children were educated.
After several years of teaching locally on the Miramichi and also working in the War Department (Ottawa) during WW2, Mom reconnected with a childhood neighbour and friend, Bus Brehaut (Dad). They were married on December 3rd, 1953, while he was home on leave from Fort Campbell, Kentucky, where he was serving in the US Army.
In 1962 their marriage of 8½ years was cut short when Dad succumbed to cancer. Left alone to raise two small children Mom never faltered. She gave to us her love, her time, her devotion – she gave us her all. Through her quiet faith & devotion, she taught us from the cradle the truth of God’s Word. Thank you Mom for being the wonderful Christian woman you were & for showing us through your love, the love of our Heavenly Father. May we carry it through to our families.
Left to mourn Florrie’s passing are (we) her daughters, Mary Beverly & Lori and our spouses, Max Richardson and Merrill MacKenzie of Fredericton, NB. Also surviving are her grandchildren - Andrew (Katee) Richardson of Halifax, NS, Bradley (Kendra) Richardson of Fort Riley, Kansas, USA, David (Erin), Adam & Melissa MacKenzie all of Fredericton. Also surviving is her great grandson, Sawyer William Richardson (6 months) of Kansas, USA. Although Mom was never able to see/hold Sawyer, she was extremely happy and proud to know that Brad & Kendra had a baby son. Also surviving is her great step-grandson, Zachery Breau (David & Erin) of Fredericton. Several very special nieces & nephews also survive her.
There will be a Celebration of Life Service at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, September 13th, 2016, at Mom’s home church, Saint James Presbyterian, 275 Newcastle Boulevard (Newcastle), Miramichi, NB. Following the service there will be a reception in the church basement. Burial will be at the St Paul’s Anglican Church Cemetery, 750 Water Street (Bushville), Miramichi, NB.
Funeral arrangements are in the care of Northumberland Funeral Home, 102 Pleasant St, telephone (506) 622-7741
