John Eric Foran, of Calgary and formerly of Miramichi, passed away at Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary, on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at the age of 47.
Born in Newcastle, NB, he was the son of Patricia (Ullock) Foran and the late John Winston Foran. He worked as a pipefitter in the oil and gas industry and most recently, holding positions in health & safety.
Eric had a rare gift for connection—he could make a friend of anyone he met. Whether it was a lifelong companion or a stranger he had just met, Eric listened with genuine interest, met people where they were, and left them feeling seen and valued. His warmth, humor, and easy kindness broke down barriers and built lasting bonds, turning everyday moments into meaningful exchanges. Many will remember him not just for what he did, but for how he made people feel: welcomed, understood, and at home in his presence.
Eric’s passion for hockey was a constant source of joy in his life, whether he was cheering passionately for the Philadelphia Flyers, lacing up his skates with the Miramichi Valley High School Pulamoo or cheering on his own son as he took up the game. Time spent with his teammates, on and off the ice, was deeply meaningful to Eric.
He will be greatly missed by his wife, Catherine (Boyer) Foran of Calgary, AB; his children, Brendan Tozer-Foran and Lilliana Foran to whom he was deeply devoted; his mother, Patricia Foran of Miramichi; his sister, Lori Foran of Lower Sackville, NS; his brother, Mark Foran (Lacy McGrath) of Calgary, AB; his beloved furry companion, Dixie; as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Visitation will be held at Northumberland Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, from 2 pm to 4 pm and 6 pm to 8 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at 11 am, at St Mary's Roman Catholic Church, with Father Cornelius Ngurukwem officiating. Interment will take place in the church cemetery at a later date.
Eric and Catie shared a heartfelt love for dogs that was a big part of their life together. Eric’s special bond with his dog, Dixie, meant a great deal to him. Because of Dixie, Eric was inspired to give back by volunteering with BARC’s Dog Rescue in Calgary, where he gladly spent time caring for dogs who needed a little extra love and attention.
As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to Barc’s Rescue https://www.barcsrescue.com or an animal charity of one’s choice.
