Elizabeth (Betty) Adavilla Matchett

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Elizabeth (Betty) Adavilla Matchett, who passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at the age of 87. 

Born in Sunny Corner on July 15, 1939, she was the beloved daughter of the late Huxley and Loretta (Mullin) Matchett. Betty was the loving wife of her late husband, Clayton Matchett, with whom she built and shared a life for 66 years. Betty graduated from NSER in 1957 as Class President. She went on to work as an Accounts Specialist for various companies throughout her career. Betty enjoyed her work, but her true passion was at home, caring for her family. 

She loved cooking her family’s favourite meals, baking homemade bread, and making delicious sweets. She had many talents, including knitting and making hats and mittens to keep her grandchildren warm during the winter months. Betty also shared her love of music by playing the organ at her church, a role she enjoyed for many years. 

Betty is survived by her three children, Perry Matchett (Cheryl), Susan Dunnett (Keith), and Barry Matchett (Theresa); her three grandchildren, Brady (Chelsey), Brendan (Jade), and Jenna; her three great-grandchildren, Clayton, Luke, and Ella; her sister, Marina Somers (Late Neil); and several nieces and nephews. 

Besides her husband and parents, Betty was predeceased by her brother, David Matchett and brother-in-law, Neil Somers. 

The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff of Flanagan Court at Losier Hall for their excellent care, compassion, and kindness over the past few years and during Betty’s time of need. 

Following Betty’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A graveside service for immediate family will take place at a later date.
