  • The death of Mrs. Edith Blanche (Mahar) MacDonald, widow of the late Maurice MacDonald, occurred at the Miramichi Regional Hospital, on Monday, June 14, 2010, at the age of 83.

    Born in Sonora, NS, February 23, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Gordon and Kate (Mcgarth) Mahar.

    Edith is survived by eight sons Gordon (Judy) of Esterhazy, SK, Brian (Janet) of Morinville, AB, Melvin (Lucille) of Devlin, Ont., Eugene (Susan) of Champion, AB, Gerard of Rodville, SK, James (Michelle) of BonAccord, AB, Joseph (Diane) of Morinville, AB, and Shane of Grand Prairie, AB; five daughters Kathleen (Graham) Shackleton of Delisie, SK, Mary (Martin) DenBrok of Esterhazy, SK, Blanche (Clark) Gilks of Lloydminster, SK, Jane MacDonald (Bev Matheson) of Williamstown, NB, Tena (Keith) Vansevenandt of Morinville, AB; two sisters Marguerite Mattie and Virginia Jack, both of NS; two brothers Leonard Mahar and Wane Mahar both of NS; 39 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
    Besides her husband and parents, Edith is predeceased by sisters Shirley Baker and Helen Bates; brothers Matthew, Douglas, and Charlie Mahar.
    The family will receive relatives and friends from Northumberland Funeral Home, on Sunday, June 20, 2010, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, June 21, 2010, at 11 am, from St Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, with Father Tom Fowler officiating. Interment will take place in the church cemetery.
    As expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the Canadian Red Cross, or to a memorial of one’s choice.
