Born in Chatham, he was the son of William (Willie) and Laura (MacDonald) Merritt. He worked as an inventory expeditor until his retirement from Sunny Corner Enterprises.
He will be greatly missed by his wife Shirley Merritt of Miramichi; three daughters Debbie (Bob Hale) of Fredericton, Dawn (Tom Hale) of New Jersey, and Wanda (Mike George) of Mount Denson, NS; two sisters Marion (late Edgar Campbell) of Ontario and Betty (late John Caron) of Miramichi; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers Jimmy (Rita), Robert (Cecile), and Walter (Stella); and sisters Jean (Donald Irvine), Bell (Robert Giggie), and an infant sister.
David's greatest love in life was his family. He took great joy in making others laugh and was known to play some practical jokes.
He enjoyed the outdoors with bonfires and his birds, but not so much the squirrels!
