It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Darren Matthew McFarlane, who passed away at the age of 50.
Darren was a loving son, brother, and friend with a heart of gold. He would do anything for anyone and was truly loved by all who knew him. He cherished his family and friends, and his cat Dexter held a special place in his heart.
Darren began working at a young age delivering newspapers, later working at Scoreboard Restaurant, Irving, the Co-op Creamery, Dew Engineering, and as a respected supervisor at Burchill’s Mill. He was known for his strong work ethic and the respect he earned from everyone who worked alongside and under him in his leadership role.
He was also, proudly, a mama’s boy, sharing a close and special bond with his mother.
Darren is survived by his loving mother, Patsy McFarlane; his sister, Kara (Eric) Savoie of Fort McMurray, Alberta; and his former wife, Amy, with whom he shared a lasting bond. He will also be missed by many aunts, uncles, and several cousins.
He was predeceased by his father, Matthew “Mattie” McFarlane, and his grandparents, Willard and Mary McFarlane, and Mae and Merle Stewart.
He faced many challenges, but his kindness and love will always be what we remember most.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Visitation will be held at Northumberland Funeral Home on Friday, May 8, 2026, from 6 pm to 8 pm. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at 11 am, at St Patrick's Roman Catholic Church, with Father Dan Bastarache officiating.
