Clyde Mercer Johnson, of Miramichi, passed away on March 6th, 2026, at the age of 77, following a long battle with Type 2 diabetes. He chose to find peace on his own terms, and of his own will at his beloved farmhouse in Miramichi.
Born in Chatham, New Brunswick, Clyde was the son of the late Leonard and Lina (Marchand) Johnson. He was an avid athlete in his youth, who held various provincial track and field records. As a graduate of the University of New Brunswick, Clyde had a strong interest in business and a love of reading. Following an initial stint as a bank manager, he soon realized he much preferred to be self-employed. His early endeavors included a small cleaning and maintenance business before switching to real estate, opening Johnson Management in the 80’s. Clyde was generous, passionate, kind-hearted, friendly, talkative, charismatic, and quick-witted. Being civic-minded, he offered his insight and intellect in municipal projects. He commanded attention in a room, sharing stories, perspectives, philosophies, and engaging others in lively conversation. He was a perpetual jokester, putting anyone in his path in stitches on a continual basis. Although he was often the life of the party, he also had a deep introspective personality with an insatiable thirst for knowledge. Driven and highly energetic, he undertook a plethora of interesting and unending projects. In his latter years, he loved hiking in the woods, fishing with his son Sam, going for long drives, and travelling with his son and wife, Ginette. They shared numerous exciting adventures together. Known for his strong personality and firm convictions, Clyde left an indelible mark on those who knew him. A great joy in his life was taking care of those he loved.
He will be dearly missed by his high school sweetheart, Ginette (Lascelle), whom he reconnected with and married later in life, and their son Sam. From his first marriage, he leaves behind his first wife, Iva (Trevors), daughter Glori (Gary) Meldrum, and their beloved children Azi, Ella, Georgia, and Mandy; and daughter Bobbi, along with her cherished children, Phoebe and Ethan.
Clyde was a brother to Heather (Trevor) Tate, Wayne (Elaine Gaudet), and Stephanie, and was predeceased by his brother Leroy. He is also remembered by his nephews Andrew (Erika), Mikael Tessier (Nadine) and Alexi (Catherine); nieces Andrea (Jason), Rhonda, Sorayya, Karen and Annica (Stephen), along with many cherished great-nieces and great-nephews Autumn, Naya, Taryn, Rafaël, Chloé, Brianna, Owen, Claire, Gigi, Ben, Elena and Bennett.
In keeping with his wishes, an intimate celebration of his life will be held.
As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Chatham Public Library Fund or a Miramichi charity of one’s choice.
