Catherine (Young) Furlong, of Miramichi, passed away at her residence on Saturday, May 9th 2015, at the age of 74.

Born in Newcastle she was the daughter of Monica (Hubbard) and the late John Young. She was an entrepreneur and operated Western Meat Market until October 1997. She then became a caregiver.
She was a member of St Mary's Roman Catholic Church, St Mary's Choir, RCIA, and Eucharistic Minister. She was Chairperson for 1st Bridgetown Girl Guides Parents Committee, TOPS 1313 Leader; Newcastle Bowling League, and played cards. She loved writing poetry.

Catherine will be sadly missed by her three daughters Carol Vienneau (Stephen) of Kitchener,ON, Angela Stewart (Darrell) of Miramichi, and Amanda Furlong (Kirk Gallivan) of Calgary, AB; two sons Joseph (Rose) of Beaverbrook, and Gordie of Miramichi. Catherine leaves three sisters: Janice Hogan (Frank) of Renous, Monica Davidson MacDonald (Reg) of Miramichi Bay, and Helen Young (Catherine Olson) of Upper Derby. Catherine had six brothers: John of Saint John, Doug (Marjorie) of Saint John, Norman (Joanne) of Upper Derby, Donald (Inga) of Barryville, David (Margaret) of Wayerton and Bernard (Marilyn) of Upper Derby. Catherine also leaves behind: daughter-in-law Angela Brideau of Beaverbrook and 14 grandchildren: John Savoy, Luke Furlong, Matthew Furlong, Vannessa Furlong, Alex Vienneau, Joanna Vienneau, Brian Brideau, JD Brideau, Clinton Brideau, Mathilda Hillier, Emilie Berger, Eleanor Berger, Ben Berger, and Mary Berger. Catherine was blessed with two great granddaughters Alyia and Kenlee. Catherine will be missed by several Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.

Besides her father, she was predeceased by her husband Gordon Furlong, her son John Daniel (Danny) and her eldest brother Benjamin Young.

Family & friends will gather to celebrate Catherine’s life at Northumberland Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 13th 2015, from 7pm to 9 pm, and on Thursday, May 14th 2015, from 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9 pm.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 15, 2015, at 11 am, at St Mary's Roman Catholic Church, with Father Tom Fowler officiating. Interment will take place in the church cemetery.

Donations may be made to a memorial of one's choice.
