It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Helen Elizabeth "Betty" (MacTavish) Corcoran, beloved wife of Edward "Ned" Corcoran on Monday, September 8, 2025, at the Miramichi Regional Hospital. Betty was 79 years old and a lifelong resident of South Nelson.
Born in South Nelson, Betty graduated from the Miramichi School of Nursing in 1967 and went on to dedicate her life to caring for others as a Registered Nurse. She ended her career at Mount St Joseph's Nursing Home, where her compassion and kindness touched the lives of many residents and their families.
Betty and Ned shared a loving marriage of 57 years, building a life together centered on faith, family and friendship. Beyond her professional life, Betty found joy in the simple pleasures. She was an avid bingo player at the Chatham Head Recreational Center, where she gathered weekly with her beloved "Bingo Buddies". She enjoyed knitting, spending time with her family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and cherished the moments at home surrounded by those she loved most. Her happiest times were those shared in the comfort of her home with Ned, her children, and extended family.
Betty will be deeply missed and forever remembered by her husband Edward (Ned); her sons, Scott (Kim) of Miramichi, Allan (Kim) of Miramichi, and Darren (Tanya) of Fredericton; her daughter Tammy (Edgar) Girouard of South Nelson; her grandchildren Kevin, Ryan, Katie, Megan, Jackson, Nathan, Shelby, Ayla, Cade, Kyle, Connor, Colin, and her great grandchildren. Betty is survived by one sister, Jeanie (Mark) Fogarty of Miramichi; one brother, Garry (Carmel) MacTavish of Miramichi; two sisters-in-law, Mary MacTavish and Mabel Corcoran; and several nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her parents John and Mona MacTavish; her sisters, Anna Gallant and Faye Saunders; and her brothers, Blair MacTavish and Jack MacTavish.
Visitation will be held at Northumberland Funeral Home on Thursday, September 11, 2025, from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm. A funeral service celebrating Betty's life will take place at Northumberland Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, September 12, 2025, at 10 am, with Rev. Geza Szemok officiating.
