The death of Barbara (Gillis) Gallop occurred on December 29, 2025 at the Mount Saint Joseph Nursing Home at the age of 78.
Barbara was born at the Campbellton Hospital November 17, 1947 to Norah (Wetmore) Gillis and Michael A. Gillis.
Barbara met her husband, Philip Gallop who worked for the Federal Department of Fisheries on the Miramichi. Soon after they married, they moved to Halifax for Philip’s career. She worked as a senior care worker at Northwood Manor until they moved to Moncton where she took a position as a cook for a special care home.
When her husband, Phil retired, Barbara and Phil moved to Miramichi Retirement Village where they lived for many years.
Barbara spent the last two years in senior care at Mount Saint Joseph Nursing Home and passed away peacefully on December 29, 2025 with family at her side.
She will be greatly missed by her sister Stephanie Gillis of Miramichi; brothers Robert Gillis (Irene McCardle) of Miramichi, and Don Gillis (Ann McKellar-Gillis) of Alberta; nephew Darren Gillis; nieces Norah Vander Haas (Tom), Janet Gillis (Chris Vickers), Anne Gillis, Natasha McKellar, and Amanda McKellar; grand nieces Megan McKellar, Greta Ellingson, Astrid Ellingson; and grand nephews Connor Ellingson, Ellar Ellingson, and Simon Gillis.
Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her nephew Peter Daniel Gillis. In keeping with her wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service.
A private burial service will take place in the spring.
The family would like to thank the administration and staff of the Mount Saint Joseph Nursing Home for the incredible kindness and care they gave Barbara for the last two years. Their professionalism and love will never be forgotten.
As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Miramichi SPCA, or to a memorial of one's choice.
