It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Aaron Gerard O’Neill, who passed away peacefully at Percy’s Place on July 9, 2026, at the age of 75. Born on January 27, 1951, he was the beloved son of the late Gerard and Hazel (Hosford) O’Neill.
Aaron was the devoted husband and best friend of Lois (Connick) O’Neill, with whom he shared 55 wonderful years of marriage filled with love, laughter, unwavering devotion, and countless cherished memories. Together they built a loving home and raised four sons who were the pride of his life: Derek (Kristal), Sheldon (Darcie), Bobby (Heidi), and Darcy (Jan).
He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Brenna, Bradey, Bayleigh, Drake, Daylen, Colby, Mackenzie, Carli, Isaac, Garrett, Kaimen, Jade, Marshall, Kyron, and Konner. Aaron was also blessed with four great-grandchildren—Eden, Ezra, Lilith, and Lucy—who brought him endless joy and always put a smile on his face.
Aaron’s strong work ethic began at an early age, working alongside his father, Gerard, in the woods. Throughout his life, he worked at Brookdale Nurseries, Homestead Furniture, and Superior Propane, where he dedicated 24 years of loyal service before spending his later working years as a long-haul truck driver. No matter where he worked, Aaron took great pride in doing every job well and providing for his family.
Known as a true jack of all trades, there wasn’t much Aaron couldn’t fix or build. If someone needed a helping hand, advice, or simply someone to count on, Aaron was always there. He gave generously of his time, talents, and kindness, never expecting anything in return.
Aaron embraced life and found happiness in the simple things that brought family and friends together. He loved a good game of cards—especially Queens—and in his younger years enjoyed playing both baseball and hockey. He was always ready for a game of washer toss, bowling, or horseshoes and rarely missed an opportunity for a good old-fashioned kitchen party. Aaron loved to dance, and country music was the soundtrack to many of the wonderful memories he shared with those he loved.
Whether it was around the kitchen table during a game of Queens, on the dance floor to a country song, or lending a hand to someone in need, Aaron made people feel welcome, valued, and loved.
Above all else, Aaron’s greatest love was his family. He was a devoted husband, a proud father, and a loving grandfather and great-grandfather whose happiest moments were spent surrounded by the people he loved most. His family was his greatest accomplishment, and the memories they shared will be treasured forever.
Aaron will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Lois; his sons, Derek (Kristal), Sheldon (Darcie), Bobby (Heidi), and Darcy (Jan); his cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his brothers and sisters: Donnie (Sherry), Leanne (Carl), David (Faye), Susan (Leon), Jerry (Wanda), Tony (Gloria), and Karla (Rob).
He was predeceased by his parents, Gerard and Hazel (Hosford) O’Neill; his sister, Pam; and his brother, Kenny.
Aaron will be remembered for his kind heart, gentle soul, quiet strength, unwavering work ethic, and willingness to help anyone in need. His generosity, humility, and unconditional love for his family touched countless lives and will continue to inspire those who knew and loved him.
Though our hearts are broken by his passing, we find comfort in knowing that his love, his lessons, and his legacy will live on through the family he cherished and the many lives he touched.
A life well lived is measured not by the years we are given, but by the love we leave behind. Aaron’s love will remain forever in the hearts of his family, and his legacy will continue through the generations who were blessed to know him.
In keeping with Aaron’s generous spirit, donations in his memory may be made to St. Mark’s Cemetery or Percy’s Place. The family gratefully appreciates your kindness and support during this difficult time.
Visitation will take place at Northumberland Funeral Home on Monday, July 13, 2026, from 11 am until 12:45 pm. The funeral service will follow at 1 pm, with Rev. Perry Cooper officiating. Interment will take place in St Mark's Anglican Cemetery.
